Australian Taxation Office - Software Developers site
The ATO engaged with Technocrat in early 2020 to migrate the Software Developers site from Drupal 7 to GovCMS8 SaaS. The site was migrated with a ‘lift-and-shift’ strategy, maintaining the IA and content, but with some modifications and additions to improve the user experience and a modernised design based on the Australian Government Design System and the ATO branding.
Because we were moving from a custom Drupal 7 site to GovCMS SaaS, we had to carefully understand the site requirements and produce a plan to implement the same functionality using only available SaaS tools.
As this included a “portal” feature where some content is only available to registered users, this proved complex and is one of the only SaaS sites to include similar functionality. In addition to the portal, we reviewed the existing content structure and proposed a simpler, more intuitive set of content types and relationships for easier maintenance. We produced a proof-of-concept with the updated structure using the sandbox, and demonstrated this to the ATO team to ensure it met their requirements, before completing the development.
Technocrat guided the Software Developers team through the build, which included the development of an interactive product register and custom access functionality to allow users to register to view restricted content. We worked closely with the ATO to ensure the new CMS met the requirements within the constraints of SaaS. The site launched on GovCMS in May.
